10. Fat Joe, Remy Ma — All The Way Up
2:03 the return of Remy Ma! “P.O. said I can’t get high/hop in the helicopter/Uber said…I’m all the way up!”
Was looking forward to hearing this election night.
9. Shakehips — All My Friends ft. Tinashe, Chance
1:21 Chance singing “I hit the baaarrrr”
8. Mike Posner — I Took a Pill In Ibiza (Seeb Remix)
:40. ‘Fuck it it was something to do.’
Runner up 2:04 the way he says ‘I’m just a singer who already blew his shot’
Just think it’s hysterical that an acoustic “you really don’t wanna do drugs and be famous” ballad becomes an edm hit, sort of like how ‘Fight for Your Right’ started as a party song parody but turned into an anthem in its own right.
7. Drake — Feel No Ways
(The Drake version isn’t on youtube).
Drake’s best song ever?
6. Young Thug-Kanye West (feat. Wyclef Jean)
:34. Once I listened to this song six or seven times, I finally started to understand what the chorus is saying. It’s disgusting and ruins the song. But those first few listens at the part when when he’s just saying random syllables rivals a Mozart aria.
5. Formation — Beyonce

4. Kanye West — Famous
:50 Drop of the year
7:20 Sample of the year
Of all the obnoxious things he said on TLOP, the Taylor line is the one I can overlook.
3. Kanye West — Ultra Light Beam

In summer camp in 2004 we had an overnight outing to Montreal. I had brought three CDs to camp-Californication, Backstreet Boys, and Third Eye Blind. The really cool kids had figured out how to burn ablyms into their big binders. I remember Through the Wire was on the radio and I thought the Twista verse was cool. When we went to a Tower Records I picked up College Dropout.
Me and Ye have come along way since then. I really hope he’s gunna turn out ok. #2024 is not a good look. Maybe Chance can talk some sense into him. I wonder if marrying his equal would’ve made a difference.

2. Frank Ocean-Solo
1:10 “In hell, in hell there’s heaven/there’s a bull and a matador dueling in the sky/in hell, in hell there’s heaven”
This album came out just after I started to be able to listen to music again. See below…
1. Jidenna — Classic Man
By spring, My concussion ordeal seemed like it was almost over. But I reaggravated my symptoms over Memorial Day Weekend. Then I got some terrible medical advice (bed rest is never the answer…) that raised everything from a 3 to a 6–7. For a few months I was barely able to follow a conversation, much less handle listening to music. For the first time in my life I couldn’t use songs to regulate my moods.
When Champions dropped in June my brain was only able to take twenty seconds of it before my headache spiked from a 3 to a 7.
A few months of aggressive therapy later, one day in August I woke up and the world felt a little less loud. I saw folks posting on facebook about the new Obama Spotify Playlist and figured, fuck it, let’s see how far I can get into it. Listening on my way to PT, I got through LoveHate Thing, Smooth Sailin’, skipped Elevator Operator, Home, Many the Miles, and then made it to Classic Man.
Halfway through this song I couldn’t stop laughing. The image of Obama using this as a pump-up song before a Putin negotiation was just too perfect.
Earlier that week I’d listened to this Tim Ferriss podcast with Cal Fussman where Fussman was lamenting that this generation didn’t have an Ali to look up to. Obama is no Ali but he’s one hell of a role model. With Donald Trump on the rise and concussed Jordan unable to do anything about it, the one thought that consoled me ran as follows — if Obama listens to Classic Man to get out of bed in the mornings, then maybe it’s not ridiculous to aspire to live like the man. And if I can inject a little more of Obama’s thoughtfulness/honesty/perspective/goodness into my life, then I’ll be doing alright.
